Choir to Perform at British Memorial Garden, September 11, 2006

April 21, 2006, London and New York City: The Choir of St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle is set to release a new CD of selected choral favorites on April 26, 2006. Included in the disc is the song "The Whirlwind" by Sir Walter Parratt (1841-1924), which has been dedicated to the victims of 9/11. This is the first time this piece of music, though it has been sung in St George's Chapel for some time, has been recorded. All proceeds from the sale of this track will go toward the building of the British Memorial Garden at Hanover Square in New York City.

It has also been confirmed that the Choir of St. George's Chapel will be performing in New York at the British Memorial Garden at a Memorial Concert on September 11th, the fifth anniversary of 9/11.

The British Memorial Garden, which is now under construction, enjoys the Royal Patronage of HRH The Prince of Wales. Designed by British landscape architects Isabel and Julian Bannerman, the garden is a gift to the City and people of New York from the Anglo-American community and its friends.

Part of the revitalization of Lower Manhattan, the British Memorial Garden was envisioned by Trust President Camilla G. Hellman as a place to honor the 67 British victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, as well as a park celebrating the historic ties of unity and friendship between the United States and the United Kingdom.

"The British Memorial Garden will bring strength and comfort to all visitors," said Ms. Hellman. "It will be a piece of Great Britain in the heart of Manhattan. We are so grateful to the Choir of St. George's Chapel for their generous support of this project, and look forward to hearing them perform in Hanover Square on September 11th at our annual Memorial Concert," she continued.

The British Memorial Garden Trust, Inc., which oversees the building and maintenance of the park, presents a concert each September 11th to remember the lives lost on that date. The concert is held in conjunction with the September Song Concert Series, an international initiative to connect numerous 9/11 memorial concerts around the world by song.

The British Memorial Garden Trust's motto, as stated by The Guardian in 2003 is "Reflect, Remember, Rebuild."
