On Thursday 8th July, 80 friends and supporters
of the British Memorial Garden Trust UK Ltd enjoyed a private view
of the exhibition, George III and Queen Charlotte, Patronage, Collecting
& Court Taste at The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace by special
permission of Her Majesty The Queen. Guests included Lord Levene,
Chairman of Lloyd's of London and Lady Levene, former MP Dudley
Fishburn and the Chargé d'Affaires at the American Embassy,
David Johnson.
The event was hosted by the Co-Chairmen of British
Memorial Garden Trust UK Ltd David Tredinnick MP and Katherine Astor,
and comprised an excellent talk and slide show by the Exhibition
Curator, and a tour of the 500 Georgian objects in the Gallery including
portraits, sculpture, furniture, silver and gold, jewellery and
clocks. The private view was followed by a champagne reception at
the nearby Rubens Hotel.
David Tredinnick gave an update on the British
charity's progress and urged those present to come forward with
contacts and potential sponsors who might be interested in supporting
the project. Camilla Hellman, President of the British Memorial
Garden Trust Inc, gave an overview of developments in New York revealing
that preparatory work on the Garden has begun and that the sculptor
Simon Verity will start to carve the stone in the Autumn.
